You can see some of the early images taken whilst the work was being carried out on the memorial grounds. You see here very clearly the magnificent change from the original "building site" days to the finished product. The team involved did a marvellous job and can be proud of their very high standards.
The floral arrangements were magnificent. The photos probably don't do it justice as you had to be there on the day to see the beauty and smell the aroma in all its full glory. Flowers came from all over and added that extra bit of emotion to the mementous occasion.
The names of the forty-seven men who persished are engraved in wonderfully-crafted plaques. The scriptures dedicating the men who lost their lives on the 18th Sept 1959 stand proudly and all remaining family members and generations can be equally as proud to know the history of these great men.
Images of all age-groups and backgrounds come together for what was a supremely fitting occasion. Retired ex-miners and school kids all merging to honour the forty-seven men was one of the most heart-rendering reminders that the Auchengeich colliery disaster will never be forgot.

"The main object of the Black Gold project was to highlight the disaster through the power of creative arts. Via this website, the book project and the music tracks it has exceeed all expectations."
